Coming up with a design plan
Just like in your real house designing your mouse house takes a bit of thought and planning. Do you want a certain theme, certain colors, or a specific style you want to try to achieve? These are all questions you should ask yourself before you get started. I highly highly recommend starting a Pinterest board and pinning ideas of things you really love. Whether it's other mouse houses or actual houses so you have many reference points. The more ideas you can refer to the better. Also, this is different from your own home in that you will see everything all at once when you are standing in front of it. So, if you are extremely picky like I am you will want it to have a cohesive look and not be all over the place in color and style, but that's just me!
The sky is the limit with this...you can do traditional, cottage, farmhouse, modern, coastal, shabby chic, etc.etc. You are really only limited by your imagination. But having a plan in place before you get started can be very helpful. Of course you may change your mind several times along the way until you get the right look and feel but that's part of the fun. It's very much like your own home. It sometimes takes several tries before you get it just the way you want it. Then you may be constantly tweaking it as you find or make new pieces but that's all part of the fun.
Decide which spaces are going to have what functions in your home...bedrooms, bathrooms, living spaces, dining and cooking spaces, and so on...You will however discover that these rooms fill up very quickly and what seems like a giant empty house in the beginning will soon be bursting with character and you may wind up like me wanting additional space to do even more...you have been warned this is very addicting. I will tell you from first hand experience that I have changed my mind "many" times before I finally settled on a look that I truly love and who knows, I may change my mind down the road and it will turn into something totally new and different.
As you can see in the photo above I was experimenting with a very different color palette and look a while back and as cute as it was, it just didn't work for me. So, I scrapped that idea and moved onto to something different. No worries, it was a fun experiment and yes, I still have all those pieces in case I ever want to use any of them in some other project. That's part of the beauty of creating a dollhouse, it gives you ability to experiment with different looks that you are curious about.
