Let's chat about scale
Before you run off and go on a mad shopping spree buying every adorable piece of Maileg furniture and accessories you can find you need to know a few things. Maileg creates a wide variety of toys with their adorable animals and dolls varying in sizes. This is not always obvious when you are new to this which is why I am taking the time to chat about it early on. Before you get seduced by the incredibly cute items there are to choose from you need to make sure they are the correct size for your mouse house. I have heard it so many times that people have bought things thinking that they will all fit the mice and into most houses and when they arrived they were much larger than they anticipated and they were crushed. My advice, pay very close attention to the measurements that Maileg retailers offer and also look carefully at photos other people are posting so you can see how well they will work with the mice. Also a big thing to keep in mind is there is no right or wrong! This is your mouse house and you can do whatever you want. Which is a huge part of the fun. Yes, it's very easy to try to recreate other peoples' "looks" but you should really try to make this your own expression and have fun with it. I personally love some oversized items in my mouse houses and think they add a bit of whimsy to the whole look and feel. They are mice after all and this isn't meant to be a terribly serious project. It's meant to be fun!
As I mentioned in the previous post most traditional dollhouses are 1:12 scale. which is quite small and depending on your "look" may or may not work. I have personally found that the furniture is a bit too small but some accessories do work. Barbie and Blythe are 1:6 scale which is way too large when it comes to the furniture but once again some of the accessories work quite well in my opinion. I have found that 1:8 scale works the best but is very challenging to find on places like Ebay and Etsy. So be aware that finding items for your mouse house is going to be a true treasure hunt which is a huge part of the fun.
