Post Office progress. . .

Lots of work on the post office today. Grandpa Gruyere, our new Post Master and I sat down and got to work. After meeting with Carmody, our design expert she laid out some plans for us and today construction began.

We started by getting the floor installed...Thankfully Carmody decided on durable faux wood finish ( ie. scrapbook paper ) which would take a lot of wear and tear with so many mice coming and going to drop off and pick up mail. I got the flooring cut to size and then attached it with double sided tape. I prefer not to do permanent installations with both floors and walls because I may change my mind down the road and this way its very easy to exchange things if it becomes necessary.

Time for some mouse sized carpentry. I got out a bunch of my beloved paint sticks, hand saw, miter box and wood glue and set to work to create a counter so that Gruyere would have ample space for his postal scale and cash register as well as plenty of room for customers to place their parcels on. He was insistent that the counter was large to handle anything that may arise. In the end he was quite pleased with what I created! Now we just have to decide if we will leave the natural wood or paint it. Personally, I am really loving the wood because it really gives it a much more vintage vibe.

Next, it was onto modifying the wall unit that I purchased from an on line seller.

When I saw this on line I knew it would be the perfect piece to add to my post office to use as a mail sorting area and the larger spaces would be great for packages. Once again I used my handy dandy paint sticks and cut the tiny pieces to fit in between the shelves to create the "mail slots". You can see that I have already been playing with testing it out by starting to add tiny letters to see how it's all going to look. Oh and because I know you are going to want to know. I found the tiny letters as a downloadable PDF you can order from an Etsy shop to print out the little letters and envelopes and then cut and fold them yourself. It is very easy to do, but also time consuming. I suggest sitting down and watching a great movie while doing this. I watched CODA and that may have been a mistake because I am pretty sure a few of these have smudges on them from tears. OMG, FANTASTIC movie! No words....

There is still so much to do...tons more tiny mail to create, wall decor, and a few more tiny projects to try to figure out! But I am losing light, so time to close up the mouse studio for today. Keep checking back for more updates to see how this little Post Office comes to life.
