Printable Rugs Recipe

This is a super easy DIY recipe to try! It looks complicated, but I promise you this took less time to make that taking the photos for this tutorial! Plus, It's totally customizable! So, you can create different sizes and styles to suit your aesthetic and space. Let's get started!

Okay, first things first! you need to go on line and search up "rugs". and look for images of rugs that are a full on image with nothing else in the photo. Something like this!

Note:

Yes, technically this is not okay to use other people's images. But it's a rug! Not exactly someone's art work that they poured their heart and soul into. So, I won't tell if you don't!

Once you find an image that you love import it into a document that you can re size on your computer. Figure ot what size you would like to make it as long as it stays with the size of the paper. Now hold on tight. Let me explain the rest...

Ingredients:

  1. Printable Velvet Fine Art Paper ( I found mine on Amazon! It is a bit pricey, but you get a lot of sheets, so that means you can make a lot of rugs! Also, I want to say this. I was sloppy and didn't read all the fine print on the Amazon description and when it arrived and I was reading the instructions it does say that this paper is made for Epson printers Only! But daredevil that I am, I threw caution to the wind and tried it out on my Cannon ink jet and it worked perfectly! I just wanted to tell you a head of time so you wouldn't be upset with me.

  2. white sticky back felt

  3. scissors

  4. glue gun

  5. glue sticks

  6. thin decorative trim ( optional )

  7. fringe ( also optional )

step #1 - Start by printing out your rug. Follow the manufacturers instructions on the paper. I oped to make mine pretty much the size of the sheet of paper but of course you can do what ever size you want.

step #2. - Peel of the paper from your felt and then apply the back of your rug to the sticky side of your felt. This will give your rug a nice backing and make it more substantial.

step #3. - trim the excess paper and felt away from your design. Now if you want you can stop here and you have a very nice and simple rug which may be exactly what you are looking for. Or if you want you can have fun and spice it up to make your rug more fancy!

step #4. - Adding the fringe. Simply flip your rug over and hot glue your fringe along the edge and trim. Stupid easy, right ? Do this to both ends.

flip it over and your rug should now look something like this. Once again you can stop here. If this is the look you like...or we can get even fancier!

step #5. - Adding the decorative trim. Once again I just hot glued this along the very edge of the paper. I did start a tiny bit in so that way when you get back to where you started you have a place for the trim to end and it's just easier this way. Take care around the corners making sure you get your trim to lay down nice and flat an look "professional".

That's it! You did it...a super easy and stylish rug for your mice to enjoy! These are so fast, fun and easy to make. You will soon have them scattered all over your mouse house. Just think, you can switch them out with the seasons to change the look of your rooms. I really hope you give this a try. It's so easy and you will have a realistic looking rug within minutes. Enjoy!

I will say that I have made rugs with printable fabric and those are lovely as well. But I much prefer this Printable Velvet Paper because it has a bit of texture which makes the rug look a bit more real and not so flat. Just thought I would throw that in there... I am done now!
