Where to begin?

Creating the mouse house of your dreams...

So?? Have you fallen down the Maileg rabbit hole? Have you caught the bug? Have you been seeing adorable images on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, or Tik Tok? Well, Alice...welcome to wonderland!

These enchanting little mice are becoming incredibly popular amongst adults looking for a creative outlet. They have come up with the most clever ways to express themselves through the eyes of these adorable little stuffed mice who originally were, and still are mostly intended for children. But let's face it sometime adults want to play too.

If you are thinking about wanting to create your very own mouse house there are so many options. Maileg has a dollhouse that is absolutely lovely and comes with 2 additions if you need more room to expand your creativity. However, a lot of people have started thinking outside the box and started coming up with alternatives. Facebook Marketplace can be a treasure trove of options if you look for dollhouses. However, be warned...traditional dollhouses are mostly done in a 1:12 scale and most Maileg furniture and accessories are larger and will NOT work in that size house. You will be much happier if you look for larger options. Pottery Barn has a created dollhouse bookshelves which are very popular and which is my personal favorite. However, I have seen so many other stunning versions done with other dollhouse manufacturers. Plan Toys, Tenderleaf Toys, Target's "Magnolia" brand from JoAnna Gaines, and Kidcraft are all popular options.

If you are searching on Marketplace or someplace else for a "pre-loved" variety be warned to pay close attention to the condition of the houses you are considering. Many will need some TLC and elbow grease to return them to their former glory. So depending on your "handiness level" be aware that this can be an issue. Also beware the dreaded stickers...most of these will have been used by children and one of their favorite activities is to "decorate" them with stickers. These are a nightmare to remove and can cause damage so know in advance that although it might be a "good deal" you may be spending hours trying to remove stickers, and then in the end have to repaint the whole thing to make it mouse house ready.

Another thing to know in advance is that many of these options are quite large so get measurements before you hop in the car to go get it to make sure it will fit in your vehicle and also figure out where you are going to put it once you get it home. Chances are you will want to put it up on some kind of elevated surface so it is at eye level and you can truly enjoy it and not have to crawl around on the floor to work on it. Then the real fun begins....designing and decorating your mouse house!
