Walls...
Are you starting to think about adding wall coverings to some or all of your mouse house walls? Let me give you some tips and tricks to help you in your decision making. Many people love to add color and pattern to their walls to add tons of character to their mouse houses. Of course there are a variety of options. You can paint if you like and if you do I would highly suggest using either chalk paint or household paint that you get at the hardware store, but do not use the little bottles of craft paint for this project. It will be a hot mess and you will not be happy. Wallpaper is another popular option and I have seen people use wrapping paper, peel and stick vinyl and of course scrapbook paper. This is going to require quite a bit of patience on your part so take your time and do not rush the process. You might even want to make templates out of scrap paper before you cut into the good stuff you have chosen.
So, how do you adhere it to the walls? Once again this is personal preference. I know some people use Mod Podge for a permanent installation, but I will be honest I have never tried it so I have no advice to share with that method. Personally, I just use scotch tape or masking tape to attach it. Of course my house is for an adult so there is not a lot of heavy playtime going on in there if you are creating your mouse house for a child you might want to choose a more durable solution. I know many people have also had good luck with double sided tape as well.
If you have decided to go with the scrapbook paper option make sure to measure ahead of time so you will know how many sheets you will need for each space. I have found that Hobby Lobby, Michael's and JoAnn all have a pretty good selection and if you watch for sales you can get what you need and save money. You can either do the individual sheets which is the most economical option but they are often pretty limited in selection. You might also want to look at the paper packs especially if you are only doing an accent wall. It will open up a lot more options for you and then you might be able to use more from that same pack in other rooms in your mouse house.
Now to pass on a bit of wisdom, and of course it's your mouse house so you can absolutely do it anyway you choose, but one thing I have learned is that busy wall coverings often limit other decorating options. So, if you would like to hang fun artwork on your walls it will often compete with the wallpaper and make it just too much for your eye to handle. Therefore, it might be a good option to do one accent wall with wallpaper and then use solid coordinating options on the others. This will allow you to put things on the wall to personalize your mouse house even more. But of course it is totally up to you and the look you are going for.
